After successfully completing the Diploma, you have the opportunity to become a recognized specialist in family medicine by completing 2 years of supervised clinical work and passing the Arab Board of Health Specializations’ certifying examinations.
Study methods
The training is delivered in a blended format through a mixture of online learning (including self-directed study, instruction and discussion) and face-to-face clinical training (teaching and discussion) with academic and supervisory support by tutors who are experts in family medicine. The online component is delivered through the Moodle learning management system and the Zoom platform. Face-to-face training is conducted in training centres accredited by the Arab Board of Health Specializations or national boards.
Duration
The Diploma takes 2 years to complete and is divided into 8 terms; each term comprises two 6-week blocks.

The course comprises 8 core modules:
- Family medicine concepts and practice
- Noncommunicable diseases
- Mental health
- Adult health: common medical and surgical problems
- Women’s health
- Child and adolescent health
- Elderly health
- Family medicine in special contexts.
Eligibility criteria
The Diploma is open to general physicians who have:
at least 5 years’ experience after earning their medical degree;
at least 3 out of those 5 years practising in primary health care centres accredited by the Arab Board of Health Specializations or approved by the local/national government (ministry of health);
a valid license to practise medicine;
proficiency in the English language; and
competency in using a personal computer.
