Government of Japan donates mobile clinics and ambulances to Aleppo Governorate
31 December 2017 – As part of its efforts to respond to the growing health needs of the Syrian people, the World Health Organization (WHO) has delivered to Aleppo Governorate 5 mobile clinics and 2 ambulances donated by the Government of Japan. The mobile clinics will provide primary health care services to safe areas in Aleppo and Rural Aleppo where the number of returnees has significantly increased in recent months. The 2 ambulances will strengthen emergency and trauma responses and improve referral services, while the mobile clinic teams will organize health education sessions to create public awareness on different key health issues such as hygiene, sanitation, family planning, nutrition, breastfeeding, and the importance of vaccination. Due to the protracted conflict that has lasted for over 4 years, many areas in Aleppo and Rural Aleppo lack basic health care services, with the majority of health facilities either destroyed or no longer functional. Moreover, landmines often result in a high number of casualties, particularly among children.
