The Regional Office is organizing a consultative meeting for the development of appropriate tools for surveillance of health care associated infections (HAIs) for the countries in the Region. The meeting will be held from 18 to 19 June 2012 in Cairo, Egypt.
The meeting objective is to standardize tools for surveillance of HAIs. Infection control experts from selected countries in the Region as well as from WHO collaborating centres and other centers of expertise working in the field of infection control have been invited.
The meeting is expected to harmonize methods for surveillance of HAIs in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, particulary in limited resource settings so as to generate reliable estimates of the burden of such infections using a coherent approach.
The final output is expected to help the countries estimate the burden of HAIs and measure the impact of interventions in a consistent manner. Standardization of HAI surveillance methods will also allow countries to compare their burden across different health-care settings in a more systematic and reliable manner.
