The health protection, promotion and community development unit supports 12 departments in the Secretariat of Preventive Medicine and Primary Health Care of the Federal Ministry of Health.
The unit covers the following programmes: integrated management of child health, adolescent health, women's reproductive health and gender, nutrition, healthy lifestyles promotion, control of noncommunicable diseases, mental health, school health, tobacco control, health system research and coordination of tropical disease research.
The unit aims to create an environment in which the Government and international partners are better equipped to develop and implement multisectoral public policies for health promotion and protection throughout the life cycle. It advocates for integrated, gender and age-sensitive, and evidence-based strategies that facilitate community empowerment for health action.
