Capacity-building in tropical disease implementation research

October 2019 - A three-day workshop on capacity-building in tropical disease implementation research was conducted on 29–31 October 2019, in collaboration with WHO’s Special Programme for Research and training in Tropical Diseases and Arabian Gulf University in Bahrain.

Key principles of implementation research were introduced, including defining and contextualizing implementation research issues, ethics and quality assurance, developing, planning and conducting implementation research, qualitative data collection, analysis and presentation, dissemination of results and research findings, monitoring and evaluation, and costing of studies.

The workshop used the implementation research toolkit developed by WHO headquarters. Mixed training methodologies were used during the workshop, including lecture discussion, working groups, role play and case studies. Participants from Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Tunisia attended.
