7 June 2021 – A virtual workshop on “Capacity-building in tropical disease implementation research” was organized from 23 to 25 February 2021 by the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, in collaboration with the TDR (Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases) regional training centre hosted by the Institute Pasteur, Tunis, Tunisia.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
introduce the concepts of implementation research, as applies to diseases of poverty;
share basic statistical analytical techniques, interpretation and presentation of tropical disease research outcomes;
explain ethical principles in conduct of research on human subjects;
provide necessary knowledge and skills for updating TDR grantees’ project proposals, in light of what was delivered and learnt during the workshop.
Eighteen participants joined from Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The main outcomes of the workshop included clear concepts and understanding the importance of implementation research theories, models and frameworks in light of knowledge and skills delivered during the workshop.
