A training workshop on implementation of the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative was held in Amman, Jordan, from 11 to 13 April 2011. The meeting aimed to introduce the Initiative to countries in which it has not yet been implemented, with special focus on countries in conflict. It also aimed at educating a team of national staff on the Initiative, specifically introducting the general concepts, tools, benefits and suggesting methods of implementation. The meeting provided an opportunity to share lessons learnt from pilot sites, especially the challenges met during implementation and discuss mechanisms of addressing these challenges, and lastly to support countries in developing an action plan for implementation and expansion of the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative.
In keeping with the aims and goals of WHO, the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative was developed by WHO with the ultimate goal of improving the safety and quality of care delivered to patients and setting standards that ensure that patients, their families and health care workers are safe in health care facilities.
