National level
Jordan is one of the leading countries in the Region in the area of quality assurance initiatives since 1992. A project funded by USAID and implemented by the University Research Corporation, Centre for Human Services introduced major structural and functional changes to Ministry of Health governance and monitoring functions. Part of this activity was to introduce integrated model centres for family health care and the family medicine specialty at Jordan University for Science and Technology.
In 2002, the Health Care Accreditation Council was established as a national body, supported by the Jordan Health Care Accreditation project, to build the capacities of human resources in the public and private sector in the accreditation process. To date, more than 10 hospitals have been accredited by Joint Commission International and/or Health Care Accreditation Council, including private and public hospitals, in addition to about 17 primary health care centres accredited by the Health Care Accreditation Council.
