19 June 2012 – WHO, in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan and provincial health departments, organized a consultative workshop on the national disease surveillance and response system and dengue case management guidelines in Islamabad from 18 to 19 June 2012.
Representatives from all the health authorities of the provinces – Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Islamabad Capital Territory – discussed the way forward for the Disease Early Warning and Response System (DEWS) and dengue management in the country. Surveillance focal points from different provinces and areas looked at options for improving the flow of information on diseases and improving the new online DEWS reporting system. At the same time, clinical experts from across Pakistan discussed uniform case management guidelines for dengue fever and dengue haemorrhagic fever.
