WHO collaborates closely with the Ministry of Health in numerous areas, particularly in the area of health system development. A prime example of this close collaboration is the active involvement of WHO in the development of the Vision for Health 2050. This included the establishment of a health system development course and technical support in the preparation and implementation of the international conference on health system reform 2050 "Quality care, sustained health" from 1 to 3 May 2012. The conference was hosted by the Ministry of Health and WHO, whose representatives also participated in the key working groups to finalize a Health Vision 2050 policy document.
Dr Margaret Chan, WHO Director-General and Dr Ala Alwan, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean joined H.E. Dr Ahmed Al Saidi, Minister of Health, Oman in inaugurating this important conference.
The main objectives of the conference were to evaluate health services in Oman, review past achievements and address current challenges in order to ensure high-quality health care in Oman. The conference reflected the continued commitment of the Ministry of Health in its efforts to provide a better standard of heath care. Through the well-prepared scientific papers presented at the conference together with valuable interactions and contribution of the participants, the conference will lead to the establishment of the Health Vision 2050. It is hoped that this will be finalized by the end of 2012.
