The Ministry of Health, Oman hosted a WHO Intercountry meeting from 22 to 25 September 2014 to train 30 experts from six countries of the Region on good governance for medicine. All countries represented had conducted country assessments to identify the strengths and weaknesses in national transparency as it relates to medicines and were currently in the process of conducting nationwide consultation to develop a national good governance for medicine programme.
The WHO Good Governance for Medicines (GGM) programme was launched in 2004 to prevent corruption by promoting good governance in the pharmaceutical sector. By identifying the strengths and weaknesses in the national pharmaceutical systems using a systematic approach like GGM, countries can identify appropriate interventions.
