A two-member WHO Mission is scheduled to visit Oman from 15 to 18 March 2015 to assist in developing a 5-year plan on strengthening knowledge translation and evidence-informed policy making and conduct a national workshop on knowledge translation for senior and mid-level managers in the Ministry of Health. Oman has been a leader in several areas related to evidence-informed policy making with such efforts as the 5-year health development planning process and more recently, more strategic effort resulting in The Health Vision 2050. Knowledge translation is the process aimed at converting scientific knowledge to socially beneficial actions, particularly actions by decision- and policy-makers. The mission stressed that research is not a luxury. Rather, using research evidence is key to finding the best way to achieve the visions, goals and objectives outlined in the health vision and can lead to transformations at all levels of the health system.
