Improving HIV estimates in Oman

A WHO mission was held from 20 to 24 April 2014 to assist the Omani Ministry of Health in improving estimates for the number of people living with HIV in the country. Improving these figures can guide action to improve both prevention of transmission of the infection as well as health care management for people living with HIV.

Available data confirms that a large proportion of reported infections are through heterosexual transmission; however, further information is required to better understand the key populations affected. The mission recommended that reducing the number of infections will require focusing interventions on key populations.
