Building resilient health facilities ensures that facilities continue to function during emergencies. The health facility safety assessment provides a framework for monitoring and planning for safe health infrastructure and a better protected workforce. With WHO support, the national task force in Oman developed the health facility safety assessment protocol to assess 21 tertiary, secondary and critical care units in four emergency-prone regions (Muscat, north and south Sharqiyah and Al Wusta), and trained 6 multidisciplinary teams to conduct the assessment. The report of this assessment was presented at a workshop on 26 December 2011, including recommendations for ensuring the safety of health facilities. Representatives from the Ministry of Health, the National Committee of Civil Defence, WHO, the Royal Oman Police Hospital and Military Hospital attended the workshop, in addition to assessors and members of the health facility safety assessment taskforce.
