A two-week WHO consultancy from 14 to 25 April 2012 provided technical support to the Ministry of Health of Oman in developing the protocol and agenda of focus group discussions to address HIV-related stigma and discrimination in Oman's national context. The mission facilitated strategic planning for the capacity-building workshop on people living with HIV (PLHIV) and the identification and addressing of the root causes of stigma and discrimination.
Consultants of the mission met with representatives of existing nongovernmental organizations and PLHIV to identify training needs in terms of strengthening support groups, advocacy and outreach, education on the rights, benefits and existing laws related to PLHIV and plan and conduct preparatory work for the training workshop/discussion forums scheduled in May 2012.
