The regional nutrition strategy (2010–2019) urges all countries in the Region to develop programmes to suit their situations and resources. In response, the United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Health and other government agencies formed a National Nutrition Committee to draft a national strategy for reducing obesity, diabetes and other diet-related diseases in 2010. The strategy was developed with support from WHO and focuses on health and nutrition education, improving food consumption patterns with a focus on vegetables and fruits, food fortification with micronutrients, food labelling and marketing, and school feeding programmes.
The nutrition siuation in the country and the government's response was the subject of an article in the Bulletin of the World Health Organization: The weight of affluence.
