6 February 2015, Geneva – Campaigns aimed at tackling neglected tropical diseases in Yemen have accelerated with the country on the brink of eliminating schistosomiasis (bilharzia) as a public health problem soon. Latest data from the Ministry of Public Health and Population show that the proportion of heavy schistosomiasis infections has dropped to below 1% in two-thirds of 36 sentinel sites across the country.
