Libya conducts round of national immunization days for polio, measles, rubella and mumps

WHO provided technical and financial support to the Ministry to conduct the campaign by:

  • preparing and funding the NIDs budgetary micro-plans of all regions of Libya 
  • facilitating the preparation of health facility micro-plans for 600 vaccination centres of all Libya
  • training 71 vaccination supervisors of all regions of Libya on preparation and implementation of the NIDs 
  • monitoring the campaign implementation in the field by WHO national staff and remote monitoring from the Control Room at Tunis.
  • trained, funded and deployment of the NGO (GT-for Studies and research) for Independent Post Campaign Monitoring.

The results of the NIDs will be announced on 25th November 2017 by NCDC Director General, at the WHO Tunis premises, in a joint meeting of WHO, NCDC, UNICEF and IOM.

After 3 rounds NIDs and one round of Sub-NIDs and enhancement of Routine Immunization and Surveillance program, Libya maintained its position as polio free, 15 Vaccines Preventable Diseases (VPD) are under control and the country is moving forward towards measles, rubella and mumps elimination. 

WHO will continue supporting the Government of Libya, MOH/NCDC and the people of Libya for providing optimum healthcare services.
