20 November 2016 -- The WHO country office in Libya conducted an assessment workshop for a Libyan national cancer registry between 16 and 17 November in Tunis, in partnership with the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development, and it has been attended by national specialists from all over Libya, including Sabha, Misrata, Benghazi, Tripoli, and Subratha cities.
This cancer registry assessment was designed to evaluate current established cancer registries and strengthen at national level to optimize collected data and reporting in order to obtain quality unbiased data on the cancer burden in Libya to clarify the current situation regarding cancer and address increasing incidence of the disease.
At the end of the workshop all national partners, WHO, and IARC drafted a timeframe to follow up on the progress of unifying the cancer registries process for a better outcome.
