Health system strengthening has been at the core of the WHO’s collaboration in Libya over the past years. The Libyan transitional government has recognized health systems strengthening as a key element for improving the health status and well being of its population. A meeting with officials from the WHO headquarters office and health authorities took place from 24 to 25 January 2012 to intensify the collaboration and map the road for health systems strengthening in Libya.
The identified needs included treatment and rehabilitation of war wounded, mental health and psychosocial support, supply and management of medications and maintenance of medical equipments, disabled and elderly care, gender-based violence, and health systems development.
