Subregional training on laboratory diagnosis of viral haemorrhagic fevers, May and June 2014

The training was held in May and June 2014 with the purpose of strengthening virology laboratory diagnostic capacity using different laboratory techniques for haemorrhagic fever causative viruses diagnosis and detection. Participants discussed possible causes of false results; promote good laboratory practice and laboratory safety issues.

The training objectives were to:

  • impart practical training to public health laboratories staff on viral haemorrhagic fever infections for the diagnosis of viruses causing haemorrhagic fevers, including dengue, yellow fever, Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever, Rift Valley fever, Chikungunya, Hantan virus, and West Nile virus; and
  • prioritize testing strategies during outbreaks.
