Overview
The Good Governance for Medicines programme raises awareness of the need for good governance in the pharmaceutical sector. Its ultimate aim is to ensure that essential medicines reach the people who need them by the application of transparent, accountable administrative procedures and by promoting ethical practices.
The programme is being implemented in three steps. The first phase is to measure transparency in the public pharmaceutical sector by providing a comprehensive analysis of the level of transparency and its vulnerability to corruption. The second phase is the development of a framework for good governance in the pharmaceutical sector, in partnership with other key stakeholders. The third phase will be to implement a national programme of good governance for medicines and institutionalization.
In 2010 Jordan developed the foundations of a framework for good governance for medicines, which laid out ethical principles and a code of conduct, developed anti-corruption legislation and promoted moral leadership.
