Dr Akram asserted that there is still a long way to go to have comprehensive mental health services, and believed that through partnerships with international health sectors such as the German Ministry of Health, Jordan can gain valuable expertise in both mental health and other health sectors.
WHO/Jordan recently hosted a group of public health students from the University of California, USA. Held annually, this visit allows the students to understand the key issues and tasks currently facing WHO in Jordan. The students received presentations on WHO/Jordan’s overall work in the country from Dr Sana Naffa, and mental health by Ms Zein Ayoub. Mr Liam Robertson also briefed them on the current Syrian refugee situation in Jordan, with a specific regard to the burden on the health sector.
After the presentation, the students were shown around WHO/Jordan’s new environmentally friendly building, and meeting with relevant staff members. WHO/Jordan was pleased to meet with young public health students and hopes that the annual visits from students of the University of California continues.
