Health workforce

What we do

  • WHO works on health workforce training and distribution using the Workload Indicator for Staffing Needs. We have recently started implementing the National Health Workforce Account (NHWA) and establishing the health workforce observatory for the first time. Supporting capacity-building of human resources for health in different levels on leadership is also among our activities.
  • A capacity-building programme for primary health care (PHC) managers in line with the implementation of PHC measurement and improvement (PHCMI) initiative in Islamic Republic of Iran has started. In the first phase, periphery level PHC managers, including managers of comprehensive health care centres and other staff involved in managing, supervising, monitoring and evaluation of the PHC programmes comprise the target group.
  • A regional online training course for capacity-building on the role of PHC in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic was also translated and disseminated in the country.

What we have achieved

  • The regional online training course for capacity-building on the role of PHC in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic was translated into Farsi and shared with the University of Medical Sciences.
  • A capacity-building programme in public hospitals to evaluate phase I and II training for hospital managers and chief executive officers using the Kirkpatrick model was implemented.
  • Various international days were celebrated to acknowledge the dedication and endurance of health care workers especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is next

Providing technical contributions to scenarios, narratives, and video scripts for producing multimedia on integration of:

  • medical education in health service provision; and
  • a reform and innovation plan in medical education is in process.
