WHO teams on ports, airports and ground crossings, and human resources development and training have developed a blended learning programme to support the learning needs of port health inspectors with the issuance of ship sanitation certificate under the IHR (2005).
The learning programme on ship sanitation inspection is comprised of two components:
eLearning course: which requires 10 to 15 hours of work online and should be completed prior to participating in the second event;
face-to-face workshop, where learners have the opportunity to recap on the theoretical components of the course as well as put their newly acquired knowledge and skills in practice through a simulation exercise and real ship inspections.
In addition, the learning programme prepares local organizers to take into account and plan for follow up on the transfer of knowledge and skills in the working environment. This phase should be conducted three to six months following the end of the face-to-face event.
