Nursing and midwifery
Nursing and midwifery encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings. It includes the promotion of health, the prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people. The nursing and midwifery workforce is central to managing and delivering health services.
The ability of health systems to perform well and respond appropriately to new challenges is strongly influenced by the availability of nursing staff with relevant skills, in sufficient numbers, located where they are needed, and working in an environment that motivates and engages them.
The Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean supports its Member States in responding to the challenges by focusing on the vital areas of nursing and midwifery education, training, performance and management.
