Global Food Infections Network promotes integrated, laboratory-based surveillance and fosters intersectoral collaboration among human health, veterinary and food-related disciplines through training in food microbiology and epidemiology, as well as other activities aimed at building capacity to monitor, detect, analyse, characterize and respond to outbreaks of foodborne disease.
The network brings together professionals from human health, veterinary and food-related disciplines and seeks to establish scientific evidence for outbreak interventions and regulatory follow up activities. Since 2002 more than 100 professionals from the Eastern Mediterranean Region have received training through the Network and established professional links with colleagues in other sectors as well as in neighbouring countries.
In late 2013 the Eastern Mediterranean Region plans to bring together food microbiologists and epidemiologists from the region for a Global Food Infections Network training course. More details will be published on this web site as they become available.
