About the programme
At its Fifty-eighth Session in May 2005, the World Health Assembly (WHA) adopted resolution WHA58.28 Establishing an eHealth Strategy for the World Health Organization. The resolution urged Member States to plan for appropriate eHealth services in their countries.
It also recognized that a WHO eHealth strategy would serve as a basis for WHO’s activities in eHealth and requested the Director-General to submit to the 117th Session of the Executive Board an action plan, including budgetary implications, aimed at the use of e-Health tools and services for implementation by Member States.
The objectives of the regional eHealth programme are to:
strengthen the ability of Member States to address health problems through the adoption of eHealth applications for prevention, diagnosis and disease management
provide technical support to Member States in the adoption of critical requirements for services covering policy, quality, safety, access and use of eHealth applications and tools
develop norms, standards, guidelines, information and training material and foster research on eHealth applications in support of the establishment of effective eHealth-supported health services by Member States.
