29 June 2022 – Funded by the German Government, WHO Egypt procured 10 refrigerated cars for the Ministry of Health and Population, with a total cost of US$ 825 000. The refrigerated cars will support the national vaccines delivery and rollout efforts through ensuring the safe storage and delivery of vaccines at the recommended temperature levels.

The cars will be distributed to different governorates around Egypt to improve the availability of vaccines in different geographical areas across the country and make sure everyone living in Egypt has access to life-saving vaccines.

The procurement is very timely given that Egypt is currently scaling up the COVID-19 vaccination uptake and is aiming to increase the percentage of the eligible population in the country who are fully vaccinated, particularly through launching the “door-knocking” campaign in early 2022 to reach different groups across the country, including remote areas, and improve their access to the vaccines through both fixed vaccination units and mobile vaccination teams.

In addition to supporting the cold chain operations, WHO has supported the supply and delivery of COVID-19 vaccine to Egypt through the COVAX Facility, co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi and the World Health Organization (WHO), alongside key delivery partner UNICEF. WHO has also been actively supporting the procurement of different equipment including steam sterilizers, personal protective equipment, cars and IT equipment.
