The WHO country office in Egypt organized a capacity-building workshop from 30 October to 2 November 2017 to strengthen the capacity of national experts to analyse financial protection in health spending in Egypt.
The workshop was conducted in participation with representatives from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP), Health Insurance Organization (HIO) and Ministry of Social Solidarity (MOSS).
The workshop focused on reviewing the conceptual underpinnings behind financial protection and presenting the new methodology for the analysis of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator 3.8.2 of catastrophic health expenditure, as well as other indicators such as impoverishment due to health spending, by using mix of presentations and practical exercises through statistical software with real country data.
The outcomes of this workshop will follow further country consultation process in order to be used in updating the country profile on the relevant SDG indicator 3.8.2. Further outcomes will provide additional evidence particularly for the implementation process of the new social health insurance reform that is expected to roll out in 2018.
