Environmental health risk and impact assessment
In support of strengthening regulatory frameworks, capacity, coordination and partnerships among concerned national institutions, CEHA provides technical support to countries in the development of national environmental health policies/strategies and plans of action. Countries of the Region lack capacity in quantitative risk assessment and management procedures.
CEHA has developed and promotes the use of the WHO human health risk assessment toolkit: chemical hazards to Member States to enable them to identify, acquire and use the information needed to assess chemical/environmental hazards, exposures and corresponding health risks in their given health risk assessment contexts at local or national level.
CEHA is developing a WHO-accredited training programme on environmental health risk and impact assessment at regional and national levels.
In partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) WHO also assesses the environmental and health impacts of WHO/CIDA projects to establish comprehensive emergency obstetric and neonatal care in selected countries and conducts environmental health impact assessment of development projects.
