Jordan publishes climate change policy

21 May 2013 – Jordan's national climate change policy was released on 14 May 2013 by the Ministry of Environment supported by the Global Environmental Facility and the United Nations Development Programme.

The national climate change policy includes a prominent section on public health strategy on adaptation to climate change which is based on the national health adaptation strategy that was developed with the support of the WHO regional Centre for Environmental Health Action (CEHA).

With funding from the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund (MDG-F), CEHA has supported the development of a national public health response to climate change placing public health and health-related adaptations (water safety and availability, food security) high on the climate change agenda in Jordan. The national health adaptation strategy was developed between 2010 and 2012, and was adopted in 2012 by the Ministry of Health.
