A workshop on WHO guidelines for the safe use of wastewater, excreta and greywater, sponsored by the Global Environment Facility and organized by regional Centre for Environmental Health Activities, was held between 9 and 11 July 2012.
The workshop was organized as an activity related to the project “Piloting climate change adaptation to protect human health in Jordan”. Twenty-seven participants attended the workshop from Ministries of Health, Environment, Water and Irrigation, and Agriculture, universities, research centres and nongovernmental organizations.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
- provide an overview about the reuse of wastewater in irrigation in Jordan as a process to adapt to climate change
- train participants on the use of the WHO guidelines 2006 for the safe use of wastewater, excreta and greywater
- train participants on the use of the quantitative microbial risk assessment tool
- discuss and revise current Jordanian standards for wastewater reuse.
