Health updates on WHO's emergency response in Khost, Paktika and Helmand

Health services are being provided in PaktikaWHO and partners have stepped up efforts in emergency response in Khost and Paktika provinces to provide assistance to people fleeing the conflict in Pakistan's North Waziristan Agency. Emergency health assistance has also been provided to people in Helmand where heavy fighting erupted between Afghan forces and opposition forces in June. 

Health service provision for displaced people in Khost and Paktika, including vaccinating children against polio and measles, is being provided and there is a significant increase in the number of consultations at health facilities. WHO and partners vaccinated 32,260 children under 10 against polio in Khost. 8,936 children have been vaccinated against polio and 5,739 against measles in Paktika. In addition, 321,750 children were vaccinated in a post-disaster measles campaign in Afghanistan's northern provinces that suffered from severe floods and landslides this spring.
