Special feature on tuberculosis in Afghanistan in Global Health and Diplomacy News

The Center for Global Health and Diplomacy, the Stop TB Partnership Afghanistan, WHO Afghanistan and the Stop TB Partnership joined forces to produce a special feature on tuberculosis in Afghanistan published in the winter issue of Global Health and Diplomacy News.

The special feature comprises nine articles which highlight the challenges of drug resistance and the success of earlier diagnostic techniques. The articles intend to raise awareness of the sustainability of tuberculosis control in Afghanistan through the voices of the many partners, both Afghani and international, who are driving the fight against tuberculosis in the country.

The special feature was introduced by Dr Sima Samar, Chair of the Stop TB Partnership Afghanistan on 24 January in Davos at a side event attended by several high-level figures, including HE Jakaya Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Hon. Francis Maude, MP and Minister of the Cabinet Office of the United Kingdom, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, together with representatives of governments, the corporate sector, nongovernmental organizations, the UN and the international global health community.
